About

FOUR SOUTHERN BOYS

MAKING A JOYOUS NOISE

Counterfeit Cowboy is not just another country band.  They are four musicians with a wide range of tastes, backgrounds and influences. They have combined forces to form Counterfeit Cowboy and are ecstatic to share their upcoming debut single ‘Praying on a Song’. The group is currently in the process of recording at renowned studio, Modern Electric in Dallas, TX.  It has recorded acts from Leon Bridges to Sir Woman, the Texas Gentlemen, and the Old 97s.  The list goes on. Working closely with iconic producer Beau Bedford, the boys look forward to sharing some soulful southern sounds with their fans for the first time in March.

BIOS

Counterfeit Cowboy’s is the combined force of 4 lifelong musicians and friends, as well as some new pals they met along the way.

Ben Brittian, BA Classical Piano Performance, MBA (University of North Texas), keys, guitar, vocals

Carson Taylor, BS Computer Science, Philosophy, MBA (University of Alabama), bass

John Waterworth, BS Mechanical Engineering (Texas A&M),  MS M.E. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), drums

Preston Hall, Poet, Mobile AL, guitar, vocals

Tyler Friedman, Eagle Scout, Grapevine TX, pedal steel, guitar

Together, they piece together a collection of shared life experience that is synonymous with modern day brotherhood. Their adventures that began paddling up the local creek in a canoe have grown to span oceans, deserts, mountains and cities.  From organs in the cathedrals of Paris, to Lynyrd Skynyrd on game-day in Tuscaloosa, from the silence of Rocky Mountain nights around the campfire, to dance parties in the jungles of Costa Rica, the boys have been working on the sound through it all.

Now they have shaped their life experiences and relationships into a sound that is inspired by all kinds of music, from the Muscle Shoals sound to Jim Croce, from Beethoven to George Jones, and more recent groups like the Texas Gentlemen or Khruangbin. The boys draw from a wide array of influence when composing their original tunes, and the result is a unique sound - old country roots with a modern twist. Whether they're writing about heartache, independence, or existentialism, Counterfeit Cowboy aims to create spacious soundscapes and breathable atmospheres, familiar instruments presented and combined in novel ways, and tell the story of the modern day renaissance man.
